David Stephens is known as a community leader throughout Coastal Virginia. Dave is a master at advocating for others. Whether it’s an impassioned plea to support Alzheimer’s research, or a spirited conversation about your finances, through his innate leadership capacity, Dave inspires those around him to step up and take charge – of whatever it is that matters most to them.
Dave’s leadership ability was first spotted during his service in the United States Army, further developed in a successful career in the auto industry and is a huge asset to his current career as the President and CEO of The Legacy Business Advisors Mid-Atlantic. What drives Dave to lead is a deep-seated love for people. He is a natural at coaching and mentoring. “I’m invested in the people who cross my path,” he says, “whether it’s a friend, an employee or a client, I want to help them get to a better place.” It’s a philosophy that has served him well: the investment in good people has in turn translated into the high level of service clients have come to associate with the firm.
When Dave is not leveraging his energy into getting people excited about the future, one can find him volunteering for the many social causes he holds dear: the Alzheimer’s Association, the Virginia Beach SPCA, and Toby’s Dream Foundation, among others. Dave also loves to play golf as much as his schedule permits. He resides in Virginia Beach with his wife, Debbie.
Rob Hawley
Vice President
Rob is a 20-year Navy veteran with a passion for entrepreneurs and small business success. His ability to apply his leadership and personal small business experience, supported by a strong network of business professionals, has created a powerful resource for his clients.
“When you speak with a small business owner, the energy that fills the room when you talk about the passion behind their business is palpable. You can FEEL it! I love that!” Rob works closely with his clients to help them achieve their goals, and create value within the business.
Rob’s dedication to helping people goes beyond business. Much of his free time is given to non-profit organizations he directly supports, and his passion for youth sports in the Hampton Roads area.
Courtney Strawhand
Chief of Operations
Courtney Strawhand is frequently the first point of contact for clients – whether by phone or in person at the office. Courtney provides support to the firm’s principals and to clients as a valuable resource, whether presented with simple or complex issues. Behind the scenes, Courtney is responsible for the firm’s operations which involves everything from processing business, acting as a liaison to the underwriters, and most importantly ensuring that clients go through a positive, efficient, and seamless experience.
Courtney has been with the firm since its inception but most importantly she has worked with co-founder David Stephens since 2002.
Courtney’s loyalty and dedication to her job does not stop there, Courtney is known for her thoughtfulness, friendliness, and ability to make our clients feel like a part of our firms’ family. Courtney is known by her colleagues for her ability to follow through, prioritize, and stay calm under pressure.
Courtney resides in Chesapeake, Virginia, with her husband, Landon, and their two children. She loves spending time with her family and friends.
